The process is controlled through the application of voltage to the counter electrode immersed in liquid or gel electrolyte. The sample is loaded from the bottom via magnetic or screw mount, while counter or and reference electrodes are mounted in a top casing

Electrolyte is delivered to the cell from a reservoir via a peristaltic pump
