Feather Gyotaku

Feather GyotakuA simple feather collected from my garden which is full of wildlife including red squirrels, rabbits, pheasants and hedge hogs. I've always loved printing feathers they make a very effective print and are popular amongst my clients. This one is printed on Chinese Xuan paper and the backing paper is Japanese Masa paper. it's wet mounted using the traditional Japanese method of a flour paste

Printed using traditional art grade sumi on handmade Thai Mulberry paper

I make a simple paste from flour and water which I paste using Yaumoto Goat Hair brush

I use a very soft wide goat hair brush and can take all the creases and air bubbles out from the paper so it's completely flat

which makes it thicker and also makes it flat
