Scallop Shell Gyotaku Print A5Scallop shells have been used so much in art and design they really are very pleasing. They are particularly tied to the Island of Anglesey as they have their own biscuit here. The Aberffraw biscuit is made by pressing biscuit dough into the shell to give it a distinctive shell shape. They make a lovely motif for Welsh Art. Printing requires pushing the paper into the grooves and it's difficult to achieve a great print. This print is A5 and is on

I then paste the glue on the back of the print and add a second and then a third sheet of paper

I've printed this on an A4 sheet of Chinese calligraphy paper using blue and green ink

Measuring 30 x 50 cm

brought to life through the same traditional techniques I use to print real lobsters

Once the print was made

which has been 'flipped over' and printed from both sides

This process takes 24 hours to dry

the print measures 35cmx70cm approx and framed it will be around 50cmx84

The print is now completely flat and suitable for framing

This print is framed by my regular framer who is a member of the Guild of Master Framers

The paper is Chinese Xuan paper and is around 70cm x 35cm

This print comes in an oak foil frame and is float mounted
